As the colder months approach, we at Bayside Gallery want to ensure that your beautiful garden art remains well-maintained and preserved throughout the winter season. Proper storage and display during these colder months can significantly extend the life and beauty of your cherished pieces. Here are some helpful tips on how to store or display your garden art during winter. By following these guidelines, you can help preserve the beauty and integrity of your garden art collection during the winter season. And if you are in one of our warm weather states or countries, maintain the course and disregard the information above!
- Clean and Inspect: Before winter sets in, take the time to clean your garden art pieces thoroughly. Use a mild soap and water solution to gently remove dirt, dust, and any residue. Inspect each piece for cracks, damage, or areas that might need repair.
- Choose Indoor Storage: Whenever possible, consider bringing smaller garden art pieces indoors during the winter. Store them in a climate-controlled environment like a garage, shed, or basement. This protects them from extreme temperatures, moisture, and harsh weather conditions. At Bayside Gallery, we keep some of our garden glass out to enjoy all winter long, as long as it can’t hold any water. This includes our Glacicles, Ribbons and Fiddlesticks. Just make sure that they are above the level that snow will accumulate and also make sure they will be protected from overhead ice that could fall.
- Protect Fragile Pieces being stored: Delicate or fragile garden art, such as ceramic or glass sculptures, should be carefully wrapped in bubble wrap, cloth, or blankets before storage. Place them in sturdy boxes or containers to prevent breakage.
- Elevate and Cover Large Pieces: For larger garden art installations like sculptures or statues that cannot be moved indoors, consider elevating them to prevent contact with snow, ice, or standing water. Use waterproof covers or tarps to shield them from the elements. Ensure the cover is secured to prevent it from blowing away in strong winds.
- Apply Protective Coating: Metal garden art can benefit from a protective coating to prevent rust or corrosion during the winter months. Consider applying a specialized sealant or protective spray designed for outdoor metal surfaces.
- Maintain Drainage: If your garden art has any openings or cavities where water can accumulate, ensure proper drainage to prevent freezing and cracking. Tipping or angling these pieces slightly can help water drain away.
- Regular Check-ups: Periodically check on your stored or displayed garden art throughout the winter. Look for any signs of damage, moisture buildup, or pest infestation, and address these issues promptly.
